Interested
in Hosting an Intern?
The
placement process begins almost a year ahead of time--in October
or November for internships beginning the following September. There
is no automatic guarantee of an intern for a given school year.
Interested congregations fill out a setting application, while
students
fill out a brief student profile. Churches are given an
opportunity to
review student profiles and interview potential interns. When
both the church representative and the student agree that there
is a good match between the student’s goals and the church’s
resources, they enter into an agreement with one another and
the seminary to fulfill the requirements of the internship.

Ministry
internships for
United students are associated with courses in contextual
studies and one of the interdisciplinary seminars.
All M.Div. and M.A.R.L.
students serve quarter-time in basic congregational
internships during the
same year they are enrolled in CS251/CS252 Religious
Leadership, Organization, Administration & Finance in
Context. One
of the prerequisites for this course is IS152 Integration
of Ministry and Local Theologies, which includes a
mini-internship in urban ministry.
Additionally, M.Div. students
will take either
CS253 Ministry Practicum or CS254 CPE Ministry
Practicum--both of which involve internships. See
the course
descriptions for further information about these courses
in general. The links below provide further information and
forms for facilitating the
internships for the respective courses.
